In this meditative work, Clarissa invites us into the spiritual realm of Sacred Tobacco, one of the most revered plants in indigenous Amazonian cosmology. Used in rituals, prayers, and healing ceremonies, sacred tobacco is not merely a plant, but a bridge between worlds, a messenger to the spirits, a guardian, and a cleanser.

A woman’s face quietly emerges from translucent botanical layers. She is the plant’s conscience, an Indigenous spirit-guide rooted in ancestral wisdom. Surrounding her, the foliage breathes with quiet strength, infused with tribal patterns reminiscent of ceremonial body paint and crafts. The painting evokes a liminal space, a dreamlike, altered state of consciousness where everything is alive and interconnected.

This piece also gently challenges us to reconsider our relationship with tobacco. While sacred in Indigenous cultures, this powerful plant has been stripped of its meaning by the commercial tobacco industry, transformed into a product that harms human health and exploits the Earth.

Sacred Tobacco is a call to slow down, to reconnect, and to treat nature, and its gifts, with respect. It is the soul of this exhibition, honoring those who still listen to the forest, and who teach us that healing begins with reverence.
