San Pedro

This painting honors San Pedro, also known as Huachuma, a sacred Andean cactus revered for its powerful healing properties and spiritual guidance. 

For thousands of years, indigenous peoples of the Andes have used this cactus in ceremonial settings to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit, guiding individuals toward inner balance, compassion, and reconnection with the natural world.

Depicted through soft, organic shapes and grounded hues, the cactus rises like a sentient presence, serene, protective, and wise. The composition feels suspended in a liminal space, where earth and spirit merge, inviting a sense of calm introspection and sacred encounter.

This painting was born from a personal journey. During a recent return to Southern Brazil, the artist’s ancestral land, she encountered the teachings of San Pedro and experienced its profound ability to open the heart and facilitate healing. The piece stands as both a tribute to this sacred plant teacher and a culmination of a deep, intimate creative path.

In honoring San Pedro, this work speaks to the healing potential of reconnecting with ancient wisdom, of embracing the sacred in nature, and of listening, with humility and reverence, to the voices of the plants and the ancestors.
