The legend of the "Guaraná Eyes," often linked to the Sateré-Mawé tribe, tells the origin of the plant through a powerful myth.

According to the story, a benevolent god planted the eyes of a beloved child who had passed away, giving rise to the guaraná plant. The tale is reflected in the fruit’s appearance, when it ripens and splits open, it reveals a dark seed resembling a watchful eye.

This painting celebrates this remarkable fruit, a powerful stimulant native to the Amazon. Over time, however, it has been heavily exploited by large corporations, often stripped of its cultural roots and turned into a global commodity.

This artwork subtly critiques the commercialization of guaraná by the soft drink industry in Brazil, inviting reflection on the sacred bond between nature, ancestral traditions, and true nourishment.

Soft, warm colors and translucent forms and textures reveal an Indigenous mother quiety crafting near her oca (traditional hut), while a graceful dracaena tree emerges from behind the guaraná fruits creating harmony, honoring gentle ancestral ways of living.
